MOSCOW, Jul 19 (PRIME) -- Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom plans to produce uranium in Namibia with investment planned at U.S. $500 million in 2029, a representative for the company told PRIME ahead of the Russia–Africa summit on Wednesday.
"We plan to finish exploration works in 2026, start uranium production in 2029 with a depletion term of more than 25 years. The planned investment in the project stands at up to $500 million, annual output at 3,000 tonnes of uranium," the spokesperson said.
Rosatom also plans to start pilot development and processing of uranium ore in Tanzania, on the Mkuju River project, in 2023–2025. The pilot facility is about 85% ready, the representative said.
The plant would produce 5 tonnes of yellowcake at the pilot stage and reach a project capacity of 3,000 tonnes per year later.
The company is ready to participate in a transparent tender for a new nuclear power utility in South Africa, the representative said.
